Assaranca Vodka – The Spirit of the Donegal Hills

Sliabh Liag Distillers reveal new premium vodka.

Sliabh Liag Distillers are extending their portfolio of premium spirits with the launch of Assaranca Vodka. Inspired by the majestic beauty of the Assaranca Falls that cut through the tranquil Donegal hills close to the distillery, Assaranca Vodka celebrates the landscape and the plants which grow locally. The vast hillsides become even more breathtaking when the gorse flowers, or whin bushes as they’re referred to in Donegal, are in full bloom, cutting a swathe of brilliant yellow across the hills. Later in the summer, bright red berries appear on the ancient Rowan trees, scattering colour across the heather strewn hills. This is the essence of Assaranca Vodka.

To create this unique vodka, Sliabh Liag Distillers take a soft triple-distilled grain spirit and redistill with rowan berries in the pot and the delicate gorse blossoms in the flavour basket. The finished product is bottled at 41% in a 50cl clear glass bottle. As with all brands created by Sliabh Liag Distillers, Assaranca has their signature softness, which is brought to the fore by the delicate flavours imparted by the gorse and rowan. Assaranca is bottled and hand labelled on site at the distillery – with the stunning label showcasing a sumi-e painting of the Assaranca Falls surrounded by the flurry of colour seen on the hills in the summer.

Assaranca Vodka has fresh sweet grassy notes on the palate leading to hints of earthy coconut water with a tamarind warmth and the softest finish. To make the most of the fragrant flavour profile, mix it long over lots of ice, garnished with mint, or in a fresh summer martini with a splash of vermouth.
